It's Friday, Feb. 9: I am not doing a full Roundup this week (here's last week's if you missed it) but there is so much good stuff going on with the Super Bowl and Valentine’s Day it seems a miss to stay completely silent.

So what are you up to this weekend? Do I need to ask? We now have a smorgasbord of sports activities squished into two days after everyone cleared schedules to make room for some serious Sunday viewing. Speaking of which, we are currently researching where to get wings. This is an annual Super Bowl thing for us. We don’t eat wings too often - so pressure is on to get this right. We’ve had some misses in past years and I vow not again. If you have thoughts, let me know.

Super Bowl

Carlino’s is hosting a kick-off meet and greet with Eagles Hall of Famer David Eckers today from 4 to 6 p.m. Unfortunately it’s at their Ardmore location. The event is free to attend and is being administered on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Also, tonight Lulu’s Casita is hosting a kid-sized pep rally for all the eaglets in your life. While you’re out, grab that gear -May23 still has officially licensed apparel available; H.Rose has the kiddos covered.

On Sunday, Levante is getting things started early with their 8th annual Kegs & Eggs, pours start at 10 a.m. Rolling Stars is back with their Eagles’ green bagels. Pro-tip: order ahead. Birl Girl Designs will be at Saloon 151 from 1 to 3 p.m. to put on those game-day faces. Open to all ages (with the patience to wait in line).

Pizza West Chester is announcing early - they will be open Sunday, 11 a.m. to sell out. Perfect for pre-game. And Gemelli is hoping to recreate some magic with the return of their special Eagles gelato. That’s organic pistachio gelato with dark chocolate cake and white chocolate pieces. If you bought this last time, I suggest you go out and do it again.

Don’t want to fight the crowds on game day? Split Rail Tavern is hosting its own Super Bowl party. Entry is $75 which includes an open bar and a buffet from 6 p.m. to the final whistle. They only have space for 100 people so jump on this if you’re thinking this is the way to go.

Late night? Well, who knows yet but wise words from the WCPD: “If attending a gathering or heading out to an area establishment to cheer on the hometown team, be safe, think smart, and always have a designated driver to get you home safely!”

Valentine’s Day

Dia Doce has a strawberry and chocolate mini box lock and loaded for Valentine’s Day (I love these things. 12 mini cupcakes, $20. So easy and I can sample multiple flavors!) Only catch is you have to call in your order and be ready to pick up. Order by Saturday 2 p.m. Pick up Monday, Tuesday 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Also, Blink is having a Galentine’s Fun Friday tonight with bubbly and discounts on jewelry and accessories. It runs from 4 to 8 p.m. Plus lots of Valentine’s Day menus including at Split Rail, the Social Lounge, and a cocktail-only, bourbon-heavy, version at Slow Hand.

The Mountain Top

I also wanted to give a shout-out to Uptown’s powerful new play "The Mountain Top." It’s an imagined conversation between Martin Luther King, Jr and a mysterious maid at the Lorraine Motel the night before his assassination. We went to see it last weekend and wow. It features just two cast members, Chaz Rose, and Brianna Miller, and is staged entirely in room 306, but boy, do those two know how to work a room. It’s funny and poignant and for a few moments a bit uncomfortable, but I promise you won’t be able to look away.

A couple of performances were canceled this week, including tonight, due to COVID precautions but the show resumes tomorrow at 2 p.m. There are only 11 performances left - so hurry, and get your tickets now!

Feb. 10 - WCU Choir Concert, Madeleine Wing Adler Theater, 7:30 - 9 p.m. Choral works from different eras that complement and reflect upon each other. The two major works will be Hyu-Won Woo’s Gloria and Conrad Susa’s Six Joyce Songs, Vol. 1. This is a free event. Tickets not required.
Feb. 11 - Feb. 19, The Mountain Top, Uptown Theater, 7 p.m. A fictional reimagination of Martin Luther King's missing minutes on April 3, a poetic and gripping inspiration from Tony Award-nominee and Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Katori Hall. Feb. 11 - Vixens of Valkyrie, Artillery Brewing, 7 -10 p.m. Featuring performances by Tricki Nikki and Elise Acoustic.
Feb. 12 - Kegs & Eggs, Levante Brewing, 10 a.m. Biring a $5 donation to the West Chester Food Cupboard (food or $$) and get a free 10 oz beer to start things off.
